About Us

Welcome to Highworth Community Centre

Following the unfortunate closure of Northview primary school, the residents of Highworth invited Highworth Community Partnership Group (HCPG) to investigate the possibility of opening a community centre. After much hard work by a small but dedicated team of Highworth residents and long negotiations with Swindon Borough Council the Highworth Community Centre was formally opened by Justin Tomlinson MP for North Swindon and Councillor Ray Ballman, Mayor of Swindon in June 2011. Since that time, the centre has grown from strength to strength and continues to offer an amazing variety of venues for the people of our town including parties, meetings, wedding receptions and much more.

We are also proud to be the location of the Highworth Historical Society History Room and Archive storage and host historical open days on a regular basis.

The Centre is wholly run by volunteers and is managed by a team of five trustees.

As well as the hall and 7 rooms for hire the centre boasts a sizeable field, woodland area and a pond, making it Highworth’s premier site for every type of event.

Everyone is welcome to use the Centre and we are always seeking volunteers to help us to expand our activities to cover all ages and all groups throughout the day. If you have a bright idea or if you would just like to help, then do not hesitate to contact us.

Please use your Centre and enjoy it!

Trustees were delighted when The Lions installed a defibrillator at the centre.  It is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

The Historical Society rescued the original Highworth Station sign a few years ago. With help from strong members of the community it was installed at the centre and now stands proud at the entrance as a lasting memorial to the ‘Highworth Bunk’ which finally closed in 1962.  It is also a reminder to the people of Highworth that the Community Centre is proud to house the extensive historical archive about the town which is opened to the public on a regular basis.

Charity Book Sale

Charity Book Sale

Much of the lower corridor is taken up with an extensive collection of second hand books for sale.  All the books have been donated by local residents and are on sale at extremely reasonable prices.  The proceeds which currently stand at over £2000 are used to support the running of the centre.  With this additional income we can offer reduced charges for residents running their own charitable events. ‘What comes around, goes around!’
